Health Safety Environmental Solutions Limited has successfully introduced
behavioural safety programmes as a new means of helping employers
control workplace risks with the UK, Europe and North America.
Statistics show that human behaviour contributes to the cause of
80-90% of all accidents in the workplace. Health Safety Environmental
Solutions has developed behavioural safety initiatives, which are
designed to reduce the number of accidents occurring.
These initiatives have proven to be successful across a wide range
of industries, and typically include the following elements:
- development of a safety performance measure
- monitoring by trained observers to establish a baseline
- setting goals for improvement in health and safety standards
- further monitoring to establish progress
- reinforcement of safe behaviours
- interventions to correct unsafe behaviour
"Health Safety Environmental Solutions use unique, tried and
tested methodologies to promote total commitment to safety. Because
our approach focuses on measuring improvements that contribute to
preventing accidents, the safety performance measure becomes a platform
for pride for each group of employees and the organisation as a
whole”, said Phil Atkinson of Health Safety Environmental
Solutions.
Behaviour based safety is not a replacement for existing safety
management systems. Employer’s primary duties will always
be to provide a safe place of work and safe plant and equipment.
For those employers who have reached the accident plateau however,
or are approaching it, Health Safety Environmental Solutions can
now provide the tools to achieve further progress towards achieving
the goal of zero accidents.

Managing and Leading
Safely Training Programme |
Research into the causes of incidents reveals that the root, or
basic causes, of 94% of all accidents and incidents are unsafe acts
by people, not failure of plant and equipment.
Traditionally most organisations focus on systems and standards,
and these remain key to an effective safety management system. However,
in order to progress to world class safety we must also focus our
efforts on the behaviour of people.
Behavioural assessment is a key skill and technique that helps us
to do this. This programme has been developed to train all levels
of management within organisations in behavioural assessment skills
so that they can actively engage with employees on safety issues
and address unsafe acts in the workplace.
This programme is applicable to all managers from executives to
line managers to functional managers.
